Lumeria Announces the SuperProfile™ at Spring Internet World

Lumeria's SuperProfile™ Technology Enables Consumers to Make Money from Their Profile

April 14, 1999 (Los Angeles, CA) - Lumeria Inc. announced today that its SuperProfile personal profiling technology will allow people to take control of their personal information on the Net - even to make money from that information, if that's what they want. The SuperProfile is private and lets consumers decide who gets access to what portions of their profile, and under what terms.

The SuperProfile - which will be available free of charge at www.superprofile.com - also helps consumers cut down on junk mail and intrusive telemarketing with its SuperOptOut feature. The SuperOptOut is a free service that helps to remove consumers' names from mailing lists and telemarketing lists. The SuperOptOut not only cuts down on unwanted marketing, it also makes the consumer harder to reach through traditional channels, thus increasing the value of the individual's SuperProfile.

The brainchild of well-known computer journalist and privacy advocate Fred Davis, Lumeria was founded a year-and-a-half ago to develop a platform for empowering individuals to take control of their personal information. With initial funding from Silicon Beach pioneer and Cyberian Outpost investor Charlie Jackson, Lumeria has since attracted investments from Berkeley Ventures Systems cofounder, Joan Blades; AT&T VP Waring Partridge; former AOL VP and Phoenix cofounder Rich Levandov; Best.com founder Rich White; and Micron Electronics cofounder Gene Thomas. Gene Thomas, who took a pivotal role in establishing Micron as a leading direct seller of computers, also recently joined the company as COO.

Lumeria's SuperProfile technology, which is based on the principles of the World Wide Web consortium's Platform for Privacy Preferences project (P3P), allows individuals to reclaim their privacy and take control of their personal information. Only the individual knows the contents of and has control over the SuperProfile. Lumeria promises not to reveal any information without the consumer's explicit consent and takes technological measures to prevent the individual's profile from being known.

Lumeria was founded to create technology, software, and services that help people securely access, organize, and selectively share their information across networks. Lumeria assures individuals that their personal information will be private, secure, and available to them anytime, anywhere. Lumeria is based in El Cerrito, CA, with international offices in Utrecht, The Netherlands. In addition to Davis and Thomas, Lumeria's team includes VP of Market Development Colette McMullen, formerly Group Publisher for IDG's online publications; VP of Technology Fen Labalme, creator of NewsPeek, a knowledge-based open-access news and information retrieval system; and VP of Product Development Don Legnitto, an Internet pioneer and well-known high-tech product manager. The company can be reached via its Web site at www.lumeria.com.
