March
9, 1999 (El Cerrito, CA) - Lumeria Inc., a privately-held Internet
corporation, announced today its intent to acquire InterOmni Services,
Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of TV Communications Network, Inc.
(OTC BB: TVCN). Lumeria and InterOmni Services are pioneers in the
infomediary industry, which seeks to revolutionize the advertising
and e-commerce world by transferring ownership of personal data
(used for direct marketing and personalized services) to the individual.
In
January 1999, InterOmni Services announced the development of the
InterOmni Wallet, which will store a consumer's personal data
profile including the consumer's medical and financial records,
purchasing behavior and demographic data. All InterOmni Wallet technologies
under development will be transferred and applied to Lumeria's
SuperProfile technology.
"Internet
time continues to astound us," says Fred Davis, President and
CEO of Lumeria and a veteran of the PC and Internet industry. "This
industry has only recently been christened and we're already
seeing benefits from consolidation." The term infomediary,
or information intermediary, was coined by John Hagel and Marc Singer
in their book Net Worth, which predicts that "a dominant
infomediary will generate as much as $700 million in revenue by
its fifth year of existence and command over $20 billion in shareholder
value by its tenth."
"We
were overwhelmed with Lumeria's breadth of vision," said
Jad Duwaik, President of InterOmni Services. "We are excited
to be adding our piece to the SuperProfile puzzle." Lumeria's
SuperProfile technology is based on the principles of the
World Wide Web consortium's Platform for Privacy Preferences
project (P3P), which allows individuals to reclaim their privacy
and take control of their personal information.
Lumeria
was founded to create technology, software, and services that help
people securely access, organize, and selectively share their information
across networks. Lumeria assures individuals that their personal
information will be private, secure, and available to them anytime,
anywhere. The company can be reached via its Web site at www.lumeria.com.
InterOmni
Services is a wholly-owned subsidiary of TV Communications Network,
Inc. (TVCN), a public company since 1987. TVCN can be reached via
its Web site at www.tvcn.com.
Net Worth, by John Hagel III and Marc Singer, was published
by Harvard Business School Press and is available at www.amazon.com.
